Why energy is foriegn policy.

Russians need our energy markets and we need Russian energy — it's as simple as that.
- Finnish Foreign Minister ALEXANDER STUBB on the EU's refusal to impose sanctions on Russia over its incursion into Georgia

So the next time McCain or one of his GOP cronies starts talking about drill here drill now ask how that will help our allies. Clearly we cannot execute a strong foriegn policy as long as we are dependent on oil. We will never have enough oil to be free of foriegn sources. As long as we are not free of oil we are severely limited in our options in response to the actions of energy suppliers like Russia or Saudi Arabia.

John McCain may talk tough about Russia but when it comes down to it there is not a great deal we can do. Much like our position vis a vis China. We just dont have sufficient leverage to bargain with. The GOP in its obsession with military might forgot what really won the cold war, our economy. A strong economy is what makes nations powerful in todays world. What good are 10,000 tanks when you dont have any gas?

Well, it's a good thing we've got Sarah Lipstick Palin to help out with the Russian diplomacy. Finally, a foreign policy expert we can count on.

O-le,O-le, O-le, O-le! O-le, O-le!
